Metajive, 2022

When T-Mobile cracked the top three in wireless, their rapid growth brought a tough reality: the digital experience was scattered, inconsistent, and lagged behind the needs of a mobile-first, tech-savvy customer base. That’s when T-Mobile turned to me and my team. Our mandate was clear—don’t just patch things up, but set a new benchmark for what their digital experience could be.
From day one, I worked closely with their leadership to surface real pain points and align on a vision that was both ambitious and achievable. We balanced near-term improvements with a bigger-picture strategy, identifying where we could deliver immediate value but also building toward a “North Star” future. The gap was obvious—T-Mobile needed to move past basics, like same-day pickup, and build experiences that anticipated what customers would want next.

Design Systems

Design is never just window dressing. The interface is the brand, especially in tech—and trust is earned in the details. We focused on crafting a digital language that felt softer, more intuitive, and unmistakably T-Mobile. Micro-interactions, personalization, and context-aware features weren’t just nice-to-haves—they were essential to making the experience feel genuinely human.

The real breakthrough came in unifying the entire ecosystem. We built a robust, componentized design system that empowered both T-Mobile and Metro teams to move faster and stay consistent. Every experience, from web to app to in-store, was designed to adapt and feel cohesive, no matter where or how customers interacted.

But this wasn’t just about rolling out new features. Success meant inspiring buy-in at every level. We equipped T-Mobile’s leaders with bold presentations, prototypes, and stories that brought the vision to life—turning stakeholders into champions and momentum into lasting change.

This project wasn’t about fixing what was broken. It was about raising the bar—for T-Mobile, for their customers, and for what digital brand experiences should aspire to be.

Metajive, 2026

When we set out to redesign the Metajive site, we knew the Applied AI section couldn’t just blend in. It needed to feel right at home with the rest of the site, but it also had to offer its own creative spark — something that made people stop and actually feel what’s possible.
I led the creative direction for our Applied AI page, teaming up with Creative Director Rob Hutti. We landed on a portal-based visual metaphor: each portal as a gateway into a core capability — Systems & Operations, Workforce Enablement, Customer Experience, Custom Agents, and Generative Creative. The structure stays consistent, but every portal opens into a different world, each one with its own visual language.

Midjourney
Hugging Face
Photoshop
Google Flow
After Effects

Here’s where it got interesting. We wanted those portals to flow into each other — cross-fading as you scroll, almost like moving between rooms in one continuous space. Getting AI to generate unique worlds that still played by the same geometric rules wasn’t easy. The trick was building a layered process: first, we locked the portal frame’s geometry and lighting, then used Hugging Face to generate depth maps to keep our compositions steady. From there, we masked everything in Photoshop so Midjourney could only generate within the frame. Animating the transitions? That took Google Flow and a lot of compositing in After Effects.

Throughout the project, we focused on one thing: let each tool do what it does best, and don’t expect AI to finish the job on its own. AI sped up exploration and helped us pressure-test ideas, but the final creative always came down to human intuition and hands-on polish. That extra 25% — the details, the finishing, the storytelling — that’s what made the work memorable, and it’s a workflow we now use for client projects, too. The result: faster visualization, sharper concepts, and finished creative that doesn’t just check the box.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: AI can open doors, but it’s our job to decide what’s on the other side.

AI didn’t exactly tiptoe in and ask permission. One day it was just there – sometimes sharp, sometimes rough around the edges, but always shaking things up. Suddenly, people were talking in absolutes: either AI was going to take over creative work completely, or it was just going to flood the internet with forgettable, low-effort content. Neither take really gets it.
What matters most now is creative perspective. That’s what sets the work apart. AI is just another tool in the kit. If you know how to use it, it opens up new possibilities. If you don’t, well, the results speak for themselves. The work we did for this page is a case in point. It started with a strong idea — and from there, it took more than just prompting an AI and hoping for the best. We had to combine AI with a mix of traditional creative tools to actually bring the experience together.

Funny side note: we got busy at one point, so my boss, Daave, tried to have another company handle it. They tried to do the whole thing in a single AI tool and it flopped — because they skipped the craft and just chased the shortcut.

The whole project turned into a story worth sharing, so I wrote an article about how we used generative AI to create the portal artwork for Metajive’s Applied AI page. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at what worked, what didn’t, and what we picked up along the way by putting AI to work inside a real creative process.Below is some of that behind the scenes content for the full story read:
